Class Information

Textbook. Stewart, Calculus (4th edition).
Quizzes and Homework. The homework will be assigned weekly, but will not be collected. Each week, there will be a 10-minute quiz during the discussion section. The problem on the quiz will be taken from the homework.
Examinations. There will be two midterm exams and a final exam on the following dates:
Midterm 1, Thursday, Oct 24, 5 p.m. -- 6:30 p.m.
Midterm 2, Thursday, Nov 14, 5 p.m. -- 6:30 p.m.
Final Exam, Sunday, Dec 8, 11:30 a.m. -- 2:30 p.m.
No calculators or notes are allowed on exams. There will be no lectures on the Fridays immediately following the midterms.
Office Hours. Your are encouraged to come to any of the office hours (listed above). In addition, Virtual Office Hours allow you to ask questions electronically. Virtual office hours will be checked and answered several times a week. Virtual office hours are preferred over e-mail, since they allow us to make answers available to everybody.
Grading. Your final grade in the class will be determined by your performance on the quizzes, midterm exams, and the final exam. These categories will have the following weights:
Quizzes, 12%;
Midterms, 22% each;
Final, 44%.
There will be no make-up exams or quizzes. The two lowest quiz scores will be dropped, and the rest will be used in the computation of the overall quiz score. If you miss one midterm, your score on the final will count for 66% of your total score. If you miss the final exam, you will get an F for the class.
