Being a student is hard. Don’t make it harder than it has to be. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or depressed, the CAPS office is a great place to start getting help. Their website is https://counseling.ucla.edu/ and their 24-hour crisis hotline is (310) 825-0768. There is also the California 24-hour suicide and crisis hotline 988 (yes it’s only three numbers). This is a confidential resource (TAs and Professors are not. We are mandatory reporters. I’m happy to explain more about what that means if you want to know).
The CAE office is there to help you get help if, for whatever reason, you need accommodations in the classroom or university housing. This includes temporary needs like those from surgeries. Their website is https://cae.ucla.edu/. You can also go in person (Murphy Hall A255) or call them. I recommend reaching out sooner rather than later as sometimes they take a while to process requests.
I think for this it is best to quote their website.
“Providing a safe place for survivors of sexual violence to get confidential support”
“If you are fearful for your safety, please call your local police by dialing ‘911’ or the UC Police Department at 310-825-1491 (24/7).
If you need to speak to a sexual assault counselor urgently, please contact the Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center (RTC) at 424-259-7208. If you need to speak to a counselor, please contact CAPS at 310-825-0768 (24/7).
If you or someone you know has recently experienced sexual violence, a survivor has the option to obtain a free forensic exam (for the purpose of evidence collection) up to five (5) days after an assault at the Santa Monica RTC 24 hours/7 days a week. For more information or to schedule transportation, please call the RTC at 424-259-7208 (24/7). The RTC also offers free trauma therapy regardless of the obtainment of a forensic exam.”
I would also like to emphasize that I am a mandatory reporter and will have to share information of this nature with the Title IX office.
This website has information for on- and off- campus resources. It is a great place to start if you are having trouble accessing meals and/or groceries. I find this page particularly helpful.
Raymond Chu’s resources are by far the best I used for this exam.
This is really just a list of solution guides.
