The talk will address some of the mathematical aspects of General
Relativity. I will survey the classical results and discuss recent 
progress achieved in understanding how rough the solutions of the Einstein
equations can be. I will also discuss the interplay between the analytic
and geometric properties of the Einstein space-times.
