Please join us on Saturday 23rd October 2021 4:30pm at Torrance High School Auditorium for a modern rendition of the epic tale of Mahabharata. The story remains unchanged, the characters remain true to their original motives, yet the drama comes with a subtle touch of contemporary sensibilities. Just like the original, it is written entirely as a poem, primarily in Bengali, but with occasional bits in English, Hindi, Sanskrit, and even Brajabuli. It is a direct homage to Satyajit Ray's "Hirak Rajar Deshe", but contains several tributes to the pioneer of Bengali rhymes, Sukumar Ray, as well as to the one unifying light of the entire Bengali consciousness, Rabindranath Tagore. The drama is presented as a serio-comedy and delves into several serious themes and societal issues of Mahabharata, but without losing its light comedic touch.
