COURSE MECHANICS
HOMEWORK
It is almost impossible to learn the material of this course without working problems. Therefore it is essential to work the assigned problems. For maximum benefit the problems should be worked before they are discussed in the quiz sections. However the assignments are optional and are not to be turned in for grading. The weekly quizzes will be based on the assignments, (See Quizzes below)
There will be a quiz in the discussion section in weeks 3 - 10 of the course
. Each quiz will consist of 1 to 2 questions selected from the assigned homework or very similar to a problem in the assigned homework. The schedule listed under course schedule will tell you in which week the problem will be discussed and in which week the problem could first appear on a quiz. Each quiz counts 20 points. Your score for the quizzes will be the sum of the five highest quiz scores. The course schedule also gives the approximate material we will cover in the lecturesEXAMS.
There will be one midterm and one final. The midterm is worth a maximum of 100 points and the final a maximum of 200 points.
There are no make up quizzes.
There are no make ups on the midterm.
Two scores will be computed and your score for the course will be the larger of the 2 scores.
Score1 =(total quizzes score +midterm score + final score )/4
If you miss the midterm for a valid reason
score 1 = 3/8 final score +(1/4) total quizzes score
score 2=final score/2
In general, no grade of incomplete will be given.
