Abstract: </br>





The Selmer group of the Jacobian of a Fermat curve tends to
be large for its genus, which raises the question of how it is
distributed between the Mordell-Weil group of the Jacobian and its
Shafarevich-Tate group. We survey results from the last 20 years,
including joint work with Pavlos Tzermias, Romyar Sharifi, and Ben
Levitt, which throws some light on this issue. However, we will raise
more questions than we answer.
