Title: Semi-stable curves + the weight-monodromy conjecture.  </br>
Abstract: For a projective, smooth variety over a p-adic field, the
weight-monodromy conjecture predicts that, possibly after finite base
change, the inertia action on l-adic etale cohomology in any degree can be
recovered from knowledge of the Frobenius spectrum (with multiplicity). I
will discuss an approach to the conjecture using the theory of the
relative Picard scheme, partly inspired by a result of de Jong.
