**Textbook:** S.H. Friedberg, A.J. Insel, and L.E. Spence, *Linear Algebra*, Prentice Hall 2003.

**Requisite:** course Math 33A: Linear Algebra and Applications

**Course Description:** Abstract vector spaces, linear transformations, and matrices; determinants; inner product spaces; eigenvector theory.

__MATHEMATICAL PROOFS__ will be emphasized in the class, in the homework assignments and in the written examinations.

General Course Information and Outline

**Homework Policy:** The homework will be assigned every week and will be collected during lecture on Friday.
No late homework will be accepted. The lowest homework grade will be dropped and will not count for the final grade.

You are encouraged to solve as many problems as you can from the textbook, and not only those from the homework assignment.

**Examinations:**
Two midterm exams and one final exam.

**Midterm #1:** Wednesday, January 28, in class. Sections covered for the first midterm: 1.1-1.6.

**Midterm #2:** Friday, February 20, in class.
Sections covered for the 2nd midterm:

**Final Exam:** Wednesday, March 18, 2015, 3:00pm-6:00pm.
Sections covered for the final exam:

The examinations are closed-book and closed-note.
No exams at a time other than the designated ones will be allowed (exceptions for illness with document proof, or emergency).

**Grading Policy:** Hw 20%, Each midterm 20%, Final 40%
