- Assignment 3 due Monday Feb. 9
1. p. 57: 1,2,7;
2. p. 61: 1a,1b(the curves
are lemniscates), 2, 4, 5
3. p. 67: 1(a)-(d) (Note change!!)
Hint for 2.4: z -> exp z maps strip 0< Im z < pi to upper half plane (why?)
so take a composition of z -> z+Ai, z-> pi z/2A and z -> exp z, and
finally z -> (-i)z. (Note change!)
Solution of 3.1(a):

- Proof that fractional linear transformations map circles, lines to
circles, lines: you are responsible for this.

Note: the remark I made in lecture about changing pi to 3 is relevant to
the fifth assignment.
