Session: Thursday 1:00 PM-1:50 PM in MS 6229
Structure of course:
Lectures: Attendance is strongly
suggested but not formally required. Students are responsible for the content
of lectures. Occasional handouts
may be posted online. They will also be sent out via my.ucla
email. It is essential that you be able to receive such emails.
Homework: This course is paperless and
you will need to consult the webpage for weekly homework assignments. There
will be 10 assignments. The first 9 are graded and the lowest of them
will be dropped from the count. Each of the 8 graded homeworks
is worth 2% of the grade, for a total of 16%.
Exams: The Midterms are on Friday
October 25 and Friday, November 22 and the Final Exam is Friday, December 13,
from 8 to 11. No test will be dropped and no replacement midterms will be
given, i.e. if
you canŐt take the midterm and the final at the dates and times above, donŐt take the course. Each midterm is 21% of
the grade. The final is 42%
of the grade. Queries about grading
of particular problems should be directed to Prof. Blasius.
Homework: Usually due Fridays in class. An exception is Thanksgiving week
when the homework is due the following Monday. Problems will be assigned from
the text and any additional problems will be assigned via the course webpage
and also sent to you via my.ucla. (Be sure to check
your UCLA mail account or put a forward on it to the mail account you use.) Homework is graded by a
Reader and scores will be recorded on my.ucla.
Issues with grading should be addressed to the instructor or the TA. They will
be communicated to the Reader. In
the event of any problem which is not resolved in such
a process, see Prof. Blasius.
Late HW will not be accepted.
Grading scheme: The course will be graded on a
curve with proportions of the various grades similar to those recommended by my.ucla to instructors.
