Announcements for Midterm #1
When: Monday, May 1, in lecture, as previously announced.
Where: Dodd 121, as usual.
Style: Probably five 10-point problems, most with more
than one part. You will write on the exam booklet; no blue books
needed. Calculators permitted, but there shouldn't be much
arithmetic to do.
Coverage:
- Lectures through Wednesday, April 26
- Homework Assignments #1-#4, but lighter on #4.
- Handouts All handouts.
- Text §§3.2-3.9, but less difficult questions in the
later of these sections. [Added later: This was changed to 3.2-3.8.]
- Some specific topics For proofs, just be able to
give the reasoning for (i) the two theorems from the quizzes in
Weeks 2 and 4, and (ii) the ratio test (convergent case only),
for series with positive terms1.
- Omitted Binomial series and the integral form of the
Taylor remainder will not be on the exam. [Added later: Binomial series
are in §3.9, omitted anyway.]
