Exams:

Quizzes: Most weeks in discussion section, as announced.
Midterm #1: Monday, May 1 (check location)
Midterm #2: Monday, May 22 (check location)
Final Exam: Friday, June 16, 3:00-6:00 (check location)

No makeup exams will be given. Advance permission is required to miss a midterm. If a midterm is missed for any reason, the other exams will count more. The final exam must be taken to pass the course.

There will be no quiz during the first week.

Grading:
Course grades are based on a weighted course total:
Quizzes 6%
Each midterm 20%
Final exam 45%
Homework 9%

A course grade of Incomplete is not given except for documented medical reasons, and only if previous work is at least a C. People with special problems should consider dropping the class.

Although individual quizzes and homework don't count a lot of points, students who do them consistently usually end up with much better course grades than students who skip them.

Homework:
Due each Friday. Selected problems will be graded. In doing problems, you may consult with each other, with your TA, and with me, but of course the final writeup should be your own. Please fold your homework paper in half vertically and label it clearly on the outside with your name, the course (Math 33B), your section (1a-1d), and the due date.

Late homework will not be graded, but will be checked off as done and will count partially. Please pass any late work in with regular work, but separately, and mark it ``LATE'' to avoid confusion.

In addition to problems to hand in, some problems will be assigned to do but not to hand in. You are still responsible for these on exams. Some harder problems will be assigned. Some exam problems will resemble homework problems.

Sometimes the homework will include computer lab exercises, not requiring programming.

Syllabus:
See the outline on-line. We'll follow the standard outline, except that we'll skip Section 3.1 for now and return to it later.
