Advice for speakers:

  • Relax.
  • Know what you are talking about.
  • The goal is to explain the material to your peers; they are the majority of the audience. Faculty are like Hobbits(1): "Hobbits delighted in such things, if they were accurate: they liked to have books filled with things that they already knew, set out fair and square with no contradictions."
  • " `Begin at the beginning,' the King said gravely, `and go on till you come to the end: then stop.' " (2)
  • Pictures are good.
