Participants are provided the opportunity to conduct hands-on energy research at NETL through educational programs administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). NETL’s Core Research and Development areas focus on five energy related issues:

Professor Paola Giuliano is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Global Economics and Management Group at the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
She is looking to hire two undergraduate students to assist her in the project “Business Elites.” The project aims at understanding the sources of mobility of the American business elite, from 1900 until today. The Research Assistant job involves data cleaning, data digitization, and data analysis.
Qualifications: Knowledge of EXCEL is required. Knowledge of stata would also be useful but is not essential.
Between 1948 and 1952, under the Marshall Plan, the United States transferred 130 billion dollars to Europe to help its recovery from WWII. During the 1950s and 1960s, Italy – the third largest recipient – moved from being a war-ravaged agricultural country to the seventh most industrialized economy of the world. Did the Marshall Plan determine the Italian growth after WWII? Or would have Italy recovered nevertheless?
The Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URSP)
The Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URSP) is for juniors and seniors who have a strong commitment to research and who will be completing a comprehensive independent research project or a departmental honors thesis during the 2017-18 academic term. This project must be completed under the mentorship of a UCLA faculty member.
