Recruiting Students for Research & Assessment Internship

UCLA Bioinformatics PhD Program

UCLA has a long history of excellence and innovation in bringing quantitative thinking and computational approaches into studies of biology and medicine, dating back to the 1980s with pioneering work in computational structural biology and molecular phylogenetics. In the past few years, the UCLA Bioinformatics Interdepartmental Graduate Program enjoyed a tremendous growth in size and impact. We have a diverse group of over 50 faculty members spanning over 10 academic departments in the Schools of Medicine, Engineering, Life Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Public Health.

UCLA RIPS - Summer Research opportunity for undergraduate students

The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) runs a unique summer program for undergraduate students. The Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) provides an opportunity for exceptional students in math and related disciplines to work in teams on real world research projects proposed by a sponsor from industry or a national lab.

LS 110: Career Exploration in the Life Sciences

This course allows students to research and be explore a variety of careers in the life sciences. There is something for everyone in this class, from freshman to seniors, including transfers. They will understand their own values, interests, personality and skills and do career research based on their analysis of what will be a best fit for them. Pre-med students often take this class and either realize that there are other careers that are a better fit or alternative fit for them, or they are reassured by the activities in the class that they are on the right path.
