The deadline to submit complete applications (original + 2 copies, collated) to Graduate Division’s Fellowships and Financial Services in 1228 Murphy Hall is 4:00 pm, Thursday, September 24, 2015. Please ask students to complete both attachments and submit the supplementary materials listed on the 2016–17 Luce Preliminary Application Sheet. I’ve also attached a PDF of the Luce Scholars Program brochure, for your posting.
The Luce Scholars Program is a nationally competitive fellowship program. The program provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in Asia for 15–18 Luce Scholars each year and welcomes applications from college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals in a variety of fields who have had limited exposure to Asia. More details about the awards are attached.
The Luce Scholars Program is open to those who meet the following criteria.
- Must be U.S. citizens who would not have reached their 30th birthday by July 1st of the year they enter the program (i.e., by July 1, 2016).
- Must have earned at least a bachelor’s degree or reasonably expect to receive that degree by July 1st of the year they enter the program.
- Must be in good health.
- Need not presently be on campus or formally affiliated with the nominating institution. Candidates may be selected from graduating seniors, graduate or professional students, or recent alumni.
Those who already have experience in Asia or Asian Studies are not eligible. However, candidates may have taken Asian language or Asia-focused courses on a U.S. campus (without majoring in Asian Studies). They may have spent up to a total of eight weeks, or have participated in a university-organized summer program, in one or more countries where Luce Scholars are placed.
