They may also be a prospective 4th year senior who plans to say for a 5th year at UCLA.

As you may know, MARC is 2-year program designed for undergraduate students who are interested in biomedical research careers and who wish to pursue a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.  The MARC program will prepare the Trainees to reach their academic and career goals by training them to read, write and present scientific research in the weekly journal club.  Additionally, Dr. Dwayne Simmons, the MARC Program Director, provide the Trainees with 1-1 mentorship.  Lastly, Trainees also have the opportunity to build community with like-minded undergraduate researchers.

MARC also provides a stipend through financial aid, a partial scholarship for fees and tuition for the academic year, and gives the Trainee and his/her lab some funds for research support. The program also sends Trainees to at least one professional conference each year and supports travel and housing expenses to conduct research at another university during the summer.
