Geoffrey Mess, mathematics professor at UCLA, died on August 8th, 2014. Mess battled illness for much of the past 20 years. The illness stole away his research productivity first, and then succeeded in stealing him from us. He will be remembered and missed.

One UCLA professor, along with undergraduate and graduate alumni received honors on July 8 at the annual meeting of the the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in Chicago.
