Math Undergrad Wins 2015 Library Prize for Research
Jing An’s mathematics paper was the winner of this year’s 2015 Library Prize for Undergraduate Research in the Sciences (Major Prize). Jing is recognized for her paper “Beltrami Energy Based Partitioning Model for Image Segmentation.” Her research mentor was our C.A.M. Assistant Adjunct Professor and Postdoctoral Scholar Dominique Zosso. Their joint project started as an REU summer research in our department and then continued as a Math 199 Directed Research Course.
This year, competition for the Library Prize was stiff, and each application went through a rigorous judging process. There were many more outstanding projects than prizes to award. The prize includes a monetary award of $450, funded by UCLA alumna Ruth Simon. Jing will be recognized at this year’s Library Prize for Undergraduate Research award ceremony and reception, held on May 13, 2015 at 4pm in Powell Library. All are welcome to attend, please see the library’s event page to RSVP:
