The National Science Foundation "Science 360" News features a video about algorithms for predicting crime - developed and studied by a team at UCLA including former postdoc George Mohler, Professor Andrea Bertozzi, and UCLA Anthropologist Jeff Brantingham.
Professor Andrea Bertozzi's research in applied mathematics is innovative and far reaching. Among other projects, Bertozzi has worked with her team and the Los Angeles Police Department to create crime predicting models, and more recently, her research focuses on the development of robots' ability to pollinate plants.
UCLA mathematics Professor Dimitri (Dima) Shlyakhtenko has been appointed Director of Institute for Pure & Applied Mathematics (IPAM). His appointment will begin on July 1, 2017.
UCLA mathematics professor Joey Teran and a team of computer science researchers from UCLA, DreamWorks Animation, Jixie Effects, and the University of Pennsylvania are further advancing visual effects capabilities.
Five UCLA Math faculty members have been invited to give lectures in the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) to be held on August 1-9, 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
