Mathematics 114C, Computability Theory, Winter 2013
Information about the final

  • The final will be given in our class, MS 5127, on Wednesday, March 20, 8:00 - 11:00 AM.
  • I will be in my Office on Monday at 5:00. I am also available for most of Monday or Tuesday for conferences arranged by your sending me an email the day before.
  • The final will be based on the following sections in the notes:
    • Chapter 1.
    • Chapter 2, excluding the proofs in Section 2C.
    • Sections 3A and 3B in Chapter 3.
    • Sections 4A, 4B and 4C in Chapter 4.
    • Section 5A in Chapter 5, which is very important. Sections 5B - 5D were covered somewhat hurriedly and there will not be any problems directly relating to this material.
  • The problems in the test will be very similar to those you have seen in the Homework, the two midterms and the Takehome test; so the best way to study for it is to make sure you know how to do these problems and problems similar to them.
  • You will have more than ample time to do all the problems you know how to do, and also to write up your solutions using correct "mathematical" English, especially the proofs.
  • Crib card. You can bring to the test a 3 x 5 card on which you can write anything you wish, both sides. Other than this, you will not be able to consult the class notes or any other personal notes that you have prepared. (I will have cards in my office to hand out if you drop by on Monday at 5:00 or at a prearranged appointment.)
