Math 115A, Lecture 2, Summer 2010

Tue Sep 14 2010:
The final exam has been graded, and the grades are posted. I have also now submitted the course grades. Both of those should now be available to you via my.ucla. I have also posted the final exam and solutions.
Wed Sep 8 2010:
I will hold a review session for the final exam on Thursday afternoon, starting at 4:00 PM, in Geology 4660. I have the room reserved for three hours, so I can stay as long as you all have questions. And if you can't make it at 4:00, you're welcome to show up later. I also have my usual office hours today from 2:00 to 3:00. Good luck studying!
Fri Sep 3 2010:
The final exam will be next Friday, Sep 10 (NOT Thursday as previously announced) from 11:00 to 1:00 in Geology 4660. It will be cumulative, and thus will cover all of the material we covered in chapters 1 and 2, as well as the new material from sections 5.1 and 5.2, and as much of 6.1 and 6.2 as we will have time to get to next week.

I heard that people were having some difficulty with problem 16 in section 2.3 on this week's homework. After considering the problem closely, I decided to write up a solution for you that shows a relatively easy way to do the problem.

By the way, for those of you who were in section on Thursday, I think this is a fairly different proof than the one David gave. So you might compare the two and make sure you understand them. If you have any questions, let me know.

The midterm and solutions are now posted. Also, I have posted the solutions to Homework 1 that David wrote up.

Tonight's review session will be in Geology 4645, our usual classroom. It will start at 6:30, and will go for as long as you all have questions. So if you can't make it at 6:30, feel free to show up later.

The midterm will be on Tuesday, August 24, starting at 11:00 AM. It should take about 50 minutes, and will cover chapter 1 (up to section 1.6) and sections 2.1–2.2. I will hold a review session Monday evening starting at 6:30 PM. Check back here on Monday for the location of the review session.
Wed Aug 18 2010:
Since I did not get to section 2.3 in class this week as I had planned, the homework problems for that section will not be due this week, and instead will be postponed until next week. (So if you've already done them, just hang on to them and turn them in next week.) This change has been updated on the assignments page.
