TEXTBOOK: Single Variable Calculus by Jon Rogowski
HOMEWORK: Homework is due in discussion section on
Tuesdays.
CALCULATORS: A scientific calculator will be useful in doing some of the homework problems. Calculators will NOT be permitted on exams. Nor will they be usefull in exams.
Wolfram Alpha is a great website and can be used instead of calculator.
EXAMS: There will be one midterm and a final exam. The midterm will be given during class on the scheduled date. The exams are closed book and closed notes.
Exams must be taken during the scheduled times. There will be NO makeup exams with the exception of medical emergencies or university approved absences.
Taking the final exam is a requirement for passing the course. Final exam will be during last day of class in the classroom.
GRADES: The course grade will be determined by the cumulative percentage of scores at the end of the quarter.
30% Homework, 30% Midterm, 40% Final
Alternative grading scheme: 40% Homework 10% midterm 50% final.
At the end of the quarter I will compute your grade using both schemes and your grade will be given by the higher of the two schemes!
Any issues about grading for homeworks or exams must be addressed within two weeks of the turn-in date. After that time no score changes will be allowed. Grades will be available online through the myUCLA website.
CHEATING: Don't risk your academic career for something as dumb as cheating. Do your own homework! It will help you much more in the exams which count for much more than individual homework assignments.
