Mathematics 131C - Spring 2010

Time and place: MWF at 11 in MS5217 (The Tuesday discussion section is in MS5117.)

Texts: Principles of Mathematical Analysis (third edition) by W. Rudin and Real Analysis (third edition) by H. Royden. We will spend about three weeks on Chapter 9 of Rudin, and the remaining seven weeks on as much of Chapters 3-6 of Royden as we have time for.
Prerequisites: Mathematics 131BH or 131B. If you were not in 131BH this year, it would be a good idea to look through earlier chapters of Rudin. If you want to focus on a few chapters, I would suggest Chapters 5,6,7. I will post solutions to my 131BH final exam on my 131BH web page after the exam, which you can use in your review.
The first discussion section, on March 30, will be devoted to going through the 131BH final exam, and otherwise reviewing 131BH material.
Late homework policy:Loss of 10% of the grade for each day it is late.
Grading: Midterm 30%, homework 20%, final exam 50%.
Midterm: Wednesday, May 5. It will cover pages 208-227 of Rudin and Chapter 3 of Royden. Solutions.
Final: The final exam will be 11:30-2:30 on Monday, June 7. It will cover pages 208-227 of Rudin and Chapters 3,4,5,6 of Royden. Solutions.
