Mathematics 131C - Spring 2003
Analysis
- Time and place: MWF at 11 in MS 5138
- Instructor: Thomas M. Liggett
- Office hours: M 2-3 and WF 1-2 in MS 7919
- TA: Kingshook Biswas. His office hours are M and F 3-4
in MS 3921.
- Text: Principles of Mathematical Analysis
by W. Rudin. We will begin with differentiation in higher dimensions
on page 211, and complete Chapter 9. Then we will skip
to Chapter 11, and cover Lebesgue measure and integration.
- Prerequisites: Mathematics 131BH or 131B and 115A.
You should read the first few pages of Chapter 9 before
classes begin. If you were not in 131AH, 131BH this year,
it would be a good idea to look through the earlier
chapters of the book as well. If you want to focus on
a few chapters, I would suggest Chapters 5,6,7. I will
also hand out solved versions of my 131BH final exam
on the first day of class that you can use to help review.
- Grading: Midterm 30%, homework 20%, final exam 50%.
- Midterm: Wednesday, May 7. It will cover pages 211-227,
235-238, and 300-309.
- Final: The final exam will not be at the scheduled
time. It will be 9-11 on Wednesday, June 11 in MS 6221.
Finals week office hours will be 3-4pm on Monday, June 9.
The final exam will cover (only) Lebesgue measure and
integration -- not Chapter 9.
