Math 290B (Lec 2) Spring 2005

Supervising Professors: Don Blasius (Math), Rafail Ostrovsky (CS), Amit Sahai (CS)

This seminar is organized for students in Mathematics who are interested in cryptography. The purpose of this seminar is to allow the students to discuss and analyze cutting-edge research in crypto. Each week a student will lead a 2 hour discussion session starting with an expository lecture on a selected paper. This will be followed by comments and key insights from the supervising professors.

The topic this quarter is Identity Based Encryption. Identity based encryption was proposed nearly 20 years ago as an extension of public key encryption. It allows for encryption without the need for the receiver to set up a public key. In the past 5 years many solutions have been proposed, and we will compare a few of these solutions in our selected papers.

Supervising Professors: Don Blasius (Math), Rafail Ostrovsky (CS), Amit Sahai (CS)

This is a joint seminar for Math and Computer Science students. The purpose of this seminar is to study critical techniques found in current works that may be conducive to our own research. We will meet twice a week to discuss such techniques. In addition to this, we will spend a few weeks at the end of the quarter to present our own research.
