Syllabus: 7.1-7.3, 7.7-7.9, 8.1, 8.5, 8.7,
8.9, 9.1, 9.4, 11.1-11.7
Grading Policy: Grade will be based on Midterms
and Final exams, plus HW score as described
below.
There will be two Midterms counting 25% and the
Final counting 40% of the grade. Homework counts for 10% of the
grade. The grades are A, A-, B+, B, B-,C+, C, C-, D, F.
Homework: The homework will be
assigned weekly and collected on
Friday (unless otherwise specified),
at the beginning of the lecture.
The main purpose of the homework is to give you a
variety of practice problems that allow you to
actively learn the class material.
The homework will be graded by the reader and
returned to you in the next discussion
section.
Please note that there will be no make-up
homework, but the two lowest homework
scores will be dropped in the computation of your
final grade.
Midterms: There will be two midterms, during
the regular class hours: 1st Midterm on F 2/9/18,
11-11:50; 2nd Midterm on F 3/2/18, 11-11:50;
both will be in
our classroom (+extra room
for overflow). Please make sure that you
have no time conflicts. There will be no make-up exams.
If you miss a midterm,
the missed midterm will not count but the remaining midterm and
the final exam will count for more (see the grading scheme
below).
Grading: Your final class score will be computed as the maximum of the following:
10% Homework + 25% Midterm 1 + 25% Midterm 2 + 40% Final
or
10% Homework + 30% (best of two
Midterms) + 60% Final
Grading complaints: If you believe a problem on a quiz
or on an exam has been graded incorrectly, or that your score
was not correctly recorded, you must bring this to the
attention of the instructor within 14 calendar days of the the
date of the exam or quiz in question, and before the date of
the final exam . Grading complaints not initiated
within this period of time will not be considered. Please verify
in a timely manner that your scores are correctly recorded in
MyUCLA gradebook.
