Homework Assignments and Quizzes

Homework problems will be assigned from each lecture, but will not be collected. There will, however, be quizzes in most TA sessions that consist of (or at least are very similar to) one or two homework problems. The quizzes will be on the following days and will correspond to the indicated homework assignments.

Exam Information

There will be two mid-term exams, each held during normal class hours, and in the normal classroom unless otherwise indicated. The final exam will be on or near the last day of classes, in a location to be determined. You will be allowed to bring in one sheet of paper containing any notes that you want. This must be readable without supplemental magnification. All electronic devices (including calculators, but especially cell phones) must be OFF during all exams. Please bring your student ID with you to each exam.

Grading Scheme

Make-up exams and quizzes will not be given, and you must take the final exam in order to pass the class. However, the lowest quiz score will be dropped, and your final score will be the maximum of the following two scores:

Quizzes (15%) + Midterm 1 (25%) + Midterm 2 (25%) + Final (35%)
or
Quizzes (15%) + Better of Midterms 1 and 2 (35%) + Final (50%)

If you have any complaints about grading, including improper recording of scores, you must bring your complaint to the attention of the instructor within 14 calendar days of the date the assignment in question was due, or exam in question was written, and before the final exam. Grading complaints not brought forward in this time frame will not be considered.

Grades will be viewable on MyUCLA.
