The office hours are subject to change, and all changes will be posted in the announcement section of the website and mentioned in class. For any help on the homework, please come to the instructor's or the TA's office hours. Mathematical questions are difficult to answer by email. For any other sort of question or to schedule an appointment, feel free to use email.

Homework: 

Homework will be assigned weekly and posted on the website. The problems will help you to learn the material and it is important that you understand how to do all of them. Homework is due on Friday at the end of class unless otherwise noted on the website. All chapter and problem numbers refer to the textbook. No late homework will be accepted and no make up assignments will be given, but the lowest scoring assignment will be dropped when calculating your final homework score. You may work together, but everyone is expected to write up their solutions individually. Homework must be stapled and clearly labeled with your name, and ID. Do not use tape or paperclips or any other novel method to bind your homework.

Mid Term Exam:

There will be one midterm on Monday, 29 October 2012 during the regular class hour. Please make sure you have no time conflicts and bring your ID card to all exams. For both the midterm and the final exam no books, notes, smartphones or calculators will be allowed. There will be no make-up exams, no exceptions.

Final Exam:

The final is from 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM on Friday, 14 December 2012 (Exam Code: 02). You must take and score higher than a 0 on the final in order to pass the class, no exceptions.

Grading:

To give you ample opportunity to succeed, your grade will be computed as the maximum of two grading schemes:
