Who is Matt Lane?

I hail from the small hamlet known as San Francisco, California.  After four years well spent at University High School, somehow I made my way to Princeton University, where I received a B.A. in Mathematics in May 2005.   You can read the culmination of my Princeton mathematical education here (watch out, it is long). If you do not want to read such a long document, you can find a summary of my thesis (with pictures and colors!) here. But watch out, there are some typos. If you are looking for a good way to spend a Friday night, see if you can find them.

Post-graduation I moved back to San Francisco, and worked for the leader in performance based digital marketing (whatever that means).  However, the call of mathematics was too strong, and somehow I was able to convince UCLA to accept me into their grad program. I now live in Los Angeles with my charming girlfriend Meg, who unfortunately does not like math as much as i do.

Research interests: Analytic Number Theory.

Non-math interests: Film/theater, Japanese language and culture, climbing (which I do poorly), watching well produced serialized television drama (which I do extremely well).

Below please find a picture of me thinking about very difficult and important mathematical problems.
