Textbook: S.H. Friedberg, A.J. Insel, and L.E. Spence, Linear Algebra (Fourth EDition), Prentice Hall 2003.

Requisite: course Math 33A.

Course Description: Abstract vector spaces, linear transformations, and matrices; determinants; inner product spaces; eigenvector theory. MATHEMATICAL PROOFS will be emphasized in the class, in the homework assignments and in the written examinations.

Homework Policy: The homework will be assigned and collected every week, on Friday in the lecture. No late homework will be accepted. The lowest homework grade will be dropped and will not count for the final grade.
You are encourage dto solve as many problems as you can from the textbook, and not only those from the homework assignment.

Examinations: Two midterm exams and one final exam.
Midterm One: Friday April 29, 2-3pm (lecture)
Midterm Two: Friday May 27, 2-3pm (lecture)
Final Examination Code: 07 - Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 8:00am-11:00am, Room MS 5127 (the usual lecture room).
All sections are covered for the final. A review session/office hours is scheduled for Monday 3pm (room TBA or MS 7620-D, not mandatory).
The examinations are closed-book and closed-note. No exams at a time other than the designated ones will be allowed (exceptions for illness with document proof, or emergency).

Grading Policy: Hw 20%, Each midterm 15%, Final 50%
