Announcements
- 7/22/2011
- The Final will take place next Wednesday 7/27/2011 in class. Here are the details (see also the
"Examinations Section" in the course information tab):
- The final will take place in class, last for 110 minutes and start at 1:00pm.
- Material includes everything we've learnt from the beginning until and including what
we will cover in lecture on Monday (7/25) and in discussion sessions on Tuesday (7/26).
For a more elaborated description of the material, please check the updated
schedule).
- Material not covered in lectures or discussion sessions will not be tested. On the other hand, material taught in lecures
and/or discussion sessions which is not in the text will be tested (e.g. the Hyper-geometric distribution).
- No notes, texts or any electronic devices will be allowed during the midterm.
Solutions will be written on the midterm pages (space will be provided including one for scribbling).
- Please bring your ID to the exam - you will be requested to show it.
- Exams from previous years can be found here.
- 7/20/2011
- Typo in what I've written on the board in class: The c.d.f of the Uniform distribution is:
F(x) = (x-a)/(b-a) if a <= x < b
not
F(x) = (b-x)/(b-a) if a <= x < b.
Thanks to the student who pointed this out to me.
- 7/20/2011
- HW4 (last) is posted. Due next Tuesday (7/26).
- 7/18/2011
- Some typos in HW3 were corrected, namely:
- Where it says problem 12.4.5 and 12.4.15, it should be 12.4 - 9 and
12.4 - 21.
- Final answer in additional parts for problem 12.4 - 19: EY = 2.2.
- Final answer to last problem (variance and expectation of X, Y where
X
is Hyper-Geometric) were fixed.
In addition, there is a typo in the final answer given in the book for
problem 12.4 - 73.
Thanks to all of you for pointing this out (including Brian).
Due to all these typos and because some of the topics were only discussed
today - the submission deadline is postponed to Thursday. Note that HW4
will be due on Tuesday as usual.
- 7/1/2011
- I will be away next week. Tuesday's lecture will be given by my substitute - Alexander and will be in the format
of a review session. Please bring questions about problems or topics, which you would like Alexander to answer.
The midterm will be proctored by the TA and a substitute instructor. On Thursday, Brian (the TA) will
solve the midterm in the discussion session (or at least some parts of it). No HW will be assigned next week.
Good luck!
