Midterm 1 grade clarification. Your grade is out of a 100, not 140. Please
ignore the maximal number of points seen on MyUCLA, as well as your
calculated percentage. It is therefore possible to have a grade which is
140 out of a 100, or alternatively 140% of the maximal score.
MyUCLA does not allow entering grades which are higher than the set
maximal grade, therefore I had to set the maximal grade to 140.
- 4/25/2011
- HW5 is posted.
- 4/25/2011
- Please note that if you haven't taken midterm 1 and did not provide justification, you will be assigned a grade of 0 for this midterm.
- 4/20/2011
- Change of room for special office hours tomorrow - Bunche 2209A instead of Fowler A103B.
- 4/19/2011
- Special office hours on Thursday, 4/21, 5:00-7:00pm, Bunche 2209A (instead of Fowler A103B as announced
before). I will be solving midterm 1 on the
board. Note that this contingent
on getting a final confirmation for the room - I will let you know if
there are any changes.
- 4/18/2011
- No office hours today due to passover. Instead, I'll give two hours on Wednesday, 5:00-7:00pm (not tomorrow, as announced in class).
- 4/18/2011
- HW4 is now posted. Deadline 4/25/2011.
- 4/16/2011
- Midterm 1 grades are now posted. Median=35.
- 4/14/2011
- Midterms from previous years are now posted under "Exams" section. Note that some of the problems are not relevant as they cover material which is not included (e.g. area between curves, Liebniz rule for
differentiating definite integrals). Good luck tomorrow.
- 4/11/2011
- Midterm 1 will take place this Friday 4/15/2011 in class. Here are the details (see also the
"Examinations Section" in the course information tab):
- The midterm will take place in class, last for 50 minutes and start at 9:00pm.
- Material includes: everything we covered in class until (and including) Monday 4/11/2011. That is:
The definite and indefinite integral, Reimann sums, integration by parts, substitution. These are covered in
sections 6.1, 7.2, 7.1 and 7.2 in the book.
- You are expected to know all integrals of fundamental functions, i.e. the ones included in the list
of integrals I gave you in class (or equivalanetly, table 6-1 in the book) as well as the integrals
of ln(x), tan(x), cot(x). You do not need to derive their antiderivatives explicitly.
- You are also expected to know the standard trig identities (double angles, sin\cos\tan\cot
of a sum\difference of two angles, sin^2 x+ cos^2 x = 1, 1+tan^2 x = sec^2 x, 1+cot^x = csc^2 x, relation between sin, cos, tan and cot, etc. (where a^b means a to the b-th power)).
- Material not covered in lectures or discussion sessions will not be tested.
- No notes, texts or any electronic devices will be allowed during the midterm.
Solutions will be written on the midterm pages (space will be provided including one for scribbling).

- 3/30/2011
- The date of midterm 1 was changed to the Friday before the original Monday, to accommodate for passover.
- 3/30/2011
- Typo in HW1 - I meant to say all odd problems in section 6.1.1, not 6.1. My appology to students who have already worked on problmes beyond 6.1.1
(but they will be assigned later, anyhow).
- 3/28/2011
