- The Final will take place next Thursday 7/28/2011 during the discussion session. Here are the details (see also the
"Examinations Section" in the course information tab):
- Total time: 110 minutes (11:00am-12:50pm)
- Material includes everything we've learnt from the beginning until and including what
we will cover in the lectures on Monday (7/25) and Tuesday (7/26). Wednesday (7/27) will be a review session.
For a more elaborated description of the material, please check the updated
schedule).
- Material not covered in lectures or discussion sessions will not be tested. On the other hand, material taught in lecures
and/or discussion sessions which is not in the text can be tested.
- No notes, texts or any electronic devices will be allowed during the midterm.
Solutions will be written on the midterm pages (space will be provided including one for scribbling).
- Please bring your ID to the exam - you will be requested to show it.

- Upcoming midterm on Wednesday (see also
Examinations Section in the course information tab):
- Time: Next Wednesday, 7/6/2011, 11:00am-12:50pm.
- Place: In class (BH 5272).
- Topics: Chapter 5 (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.5), 6 (6.1, 6.2, 6.4,), 7(7.1, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5).
- No notes, texts or any electronic devices will be allowed during the midterm.
Solutions will be written on the exam pages (space will be provided including one for scribbling).
- The midterm will include 5 problems (worth 20 points each), mostly with several parts.
- Anush will be giving a discussion session on Tuesday which will be partly a review session as well.
On Thursday, Anush will be solving the midterm for you.

- HW2 is posted. Notice the late submission dead-line (due to midterm). No HW will
be assigned next week.

- Interchanging the discussion session and the lecture. On
Thursday, 6/30,
11:00am-12:50pm, there will be a lecture instead of a
discussion session. On Tuesday, 7/5, 11:00am-12:50pm, there
will be a discussion session instead of a lecture. Rooms stay
the same. The discussion session on 7/5 will be mostly used
for a review before the midterm on the following day. Please
email me if you cannot make it to the lecture on 6/30.

- HW1 is now posted. Note that the
problems assigned are odd, so that their solutions can be found
at the end of the book. However, grading will be based on the
way of deriving the final answers, not the final answers
themselves.

To make the OH better synchronized with the HW cycle, I have made
the following changes:
- Submission of HW: On Tuesday (in class), instead of
Monday.
- OH: M4:30-6:00 (mainly for help with HW), W4:00-5:00(mainly
for help with class material). There will be no office hours on Tuesday.
