The Junior Algebraic Geometry Workshop (JAGW) is a series of summer workshops for junior researchers in algebraic geometry and related areas. The 2027 workshop will take place at UCLA from Monday, June 14, to Friday, June 18.
The workshop aims to train graduate students and postdocs in areas of algebraic geometry with recent important developments. Joaquín Moraga, Harold Blum, and Philip Engel will deliver lecture series on their research areas. Lectures and contributed talks run Monday–Thursday; Friday is devoted to free discussion.

University of California, Los Angeles
Joaquín Moraga works in algebraic geometry, with a focus on birational geometry, algebraic singularities, and the minimal model program. His research studies Fano varieties and log Calabi–Yau pairs, including their symmetries, topology, and birational structure. Recent themes include complements, coregularity, and complexity, as well as toric models and cluster type varieties.
Georgia Institute of Technology
Harold Blum studies algebraic geometry, particularly birational geometry, K-stability, and moduli of Fano and Calabi–Yau varieties. His work uses valuations and invariants of singularities to study stability and degenerations. His research includes the structure and properness of K-moduli spaces, optimal degenerations of Fano varieties, and moduli spaces of boundary-polarized Calabi–Yau pairs.
University of Illinois Chicago
Philip Engel works in algebraic geometry and Hodge theory, especially on moduli spaces and degenerations of Calabi–Yau varieties. His research includes compactifications of moduli spaces of K3 and Enriques surfaces, integral-affine geometry, and degenerations of abelian varieties. He also studies algebraic cycles and the integral Hodge conjecture, drawing connections between geometry, topology, and combinatorics.

For a taxi or rideshare, follow the airport’s pickup instructions and use IPAM, 460 Portola Plaza, UCLA as your destination. For public transit, take the free airport shuttle to the LAX/Metro Transit Center, then Culver CityBus Line 6 or Rapid 6 toward UCLA.
