Congratulation to our four new graduated students: Lok Ming Lui, Kangyu Ni, Mingquiang Zhu and Tim Lee. Lok Ming Lui will start a postdoc at Stanford/UCLA and Kangyu Ni at Arizona State University. Mingquiang Zhu is going to Credit Suisse and Tim Lee at Amgen Inc. Sheshadri Thiruvenkadam, Postdoc Scholar, will join General Electric, Bangalore, India.

New SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences (SIIMS) is accepting submissions. This new journal covers all areas of imaging sciences leading to applications to diverse areas in science, medicine, engineering, and other fields.

The National Science Foundation has named Prof. Tony F. Chan, Dean of Physical Sciences at the University of California at Los Angeles, to be Assistant Director for Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) at NSF. In that position, Prof. Chan will guide and manage research funding totaling approximately $1 billion a year to support astronomy, physics, chemistry, mathematics, materials science and multidisciplinary activities.
