Problem Set I
for Tuesday, January 17
Postponed to Thursday, January 19, at Adrian Ioana's
office hours.
These problems are due at the beginning of the discussion
section.
Section 1.1, page 5:
- Problem 11. For simplicity, it may be assumed that
a > 0.
- Problem 12, in one direction: Show that if P
satisfies (a) and (b), then the relation defined satisfies
the five properties (O1) - (O5).
Section 1.2, page 13:
- Problem 1. "Describe" is vague, but expressing the set as
a finite union of intervals would certainly be a sufficient description.
- Problem 2(a, b, c). The same comment applies.
- Problem 8.
