Undergraduate Women Mentoring: Mission Statement The principal goal of the GSO undergraduate women mentoring program is to encourage female undergraduate math majors at UCLA to pursue graduate degrees in mathematics and statistics. To this end, GSO (with the help of the Undergraduate Math Students' Association) will pair female graduate students from the mathematics and statistics departments with female undergraduate math majors. Benefits to undergraduate women: - Increased visibility of women in mathematics and statistics - Someone to ask about life as a graduate student - A source for advice and candid opinions about Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) programs, graduate programs and the graduate school application process - A role model - Inclusion of women in a mathematical community Benefits to graduate mentors: - An opportunity to reduce the rate of attrition of women in mathematics - Participation in a network of women in math at UCLA
