Mathematics at the nanoscale: Big problems for small systems

Abstract:

Nanotechnology is high-tech priority at UCLA, as well as for the nation. Materials science, medicine, electrical engineering and chemistry are all part of the nanotechnology initiative. Is there a role for mathematics? This talk will present examples of mathematical analysis, modeling and simulation for nanosystems and discuss ways in which mathematicians and mathematics students can get involved.
