Abstract:
The goal of Prof. Eli Yablonovitch's group (UCLA EE) is to build devices from standard semi-conductor materials that can store information in the spin of a single electron. The design of these devices is tricky and an experimental trial-and-error procedure is unlikely yield results. Mathematical modeling and computational simulation has thus become crucial to the success of the effort. In this talk I'll present an overview of the modeling and simulation work that the UCLA applied math group is doing to support the design and creation of these quantum bit devices.
