Abstract:

The UCLA Statistical Consulting Center provides technical assistance to individuals and organizations both on and off campus. Despite the fact that we charge for our services, we have more business than we can handle. The Center is staffed by faculty and students in the UCLA Department of Statistics, by and large, with some participation from faculty and students from other departments. In this talk, I will consider the kinds of work done by the Center which includes projects for large business firms and state agencies, litigation support, and collaborations with scientists of various kinds. Among our clients have been the California Department of Corrections, The California State Lottery, J.D. Powers and Associates, Toyota, Amgen, and the ACLU.
