Mathematical Perspectives Seminar

V. S. Varadarajan

will speak on

Mathematics and the physical world: myths, facts, and philosophy

Abstract:

The relations between mathematics and the physical world are explored in this talk with special emphasis on the quantum world. By specific examples I shall try to explain how the necessity of understanding the world of very small things traveling with very high speeds has resulted in a new revolution not only in mathematics and physics separately but also in the way they interact.
