| LECTURES: | MS 5200; MWF 12:00pm-12:50pm |
| DICUSSION SECTION: | FRANZ 2258A; Tuesday 12:00pm-12:50pm (Section 1A), Thursday 12:00pm-12:50pm (Section 1B) The discussion section will be a time for students to get help with homework and gain additional mastery of the problems. While attendance is not required it is strongly recommended that you go. While preferably you should go to the section which you are enrolled, you may (at the discretion of the TA) attend the other section. |
| HOMEWORK: |
Homeworks will be assigned on a weekly basis. The assignments will be given in class as well as posted online. Homework assignments will be collected in class on the day they are due. NO late homework assignments will be accepted, however the two lowest homework scores will be dropped. Students should first attempt to complete the homework assignments by themselves and then seek outside help (i.e., other students, the TA, the instructor or the Student Math Center (SMC)) for any problems they are not able to complete. Students are expected to write up the problems by themselves and not copy off of others work. |
| TEXTBOOK: | Discrete Source, by Richard Johnsonbaugh (Note: This is a "custom" abridged version of the book Discrete Mathematics by Johnsonbaugh.) We will cover the entire book. |
| CALCULATORS: | A scientific calculator might be useful in doing some of the homework problems. Calculators will NOT be permitted on exams. |
| EXAMS: | There will be two midterm exams and a final exam for the course. (For the date of the exams consult the course calendar.) The midterms will be given during class on their scheduled dates. You may bring one 8.5 by 11 inch handwritten sheet of notes with you to the examinations. Exams must be taken during the scheduled times. There will be NO makeup exams with the exception of medical emergencies or university approved absences. Taking the final exam is a requirement for passing the course. There will be no final given before the scheduled time. |
| GRADES: | The course grade will be determined by the cumulative percentage of scores at the end of the quarter. This is calculated by taking the BETTER of the two schemes:
10% Homework, 35% Best midterm, 55% Final Any issues about grading for homeworks or exams must be addressed within two weeks of the turn-in date. After that time no score changes will be allowed. |
| CHEATING: | Cheating is stupid and a serious offense. Students caught cheating will be reported. Do NOT cheat!! |
