Finite Mathematics

Textbook: Essentials of Finite Mathematics by R.F. Brown and B.W. Brown.
The class' syllabus is downloadable in HTML and PDF formats. Supplementary handouts will be distributed to explain the material not covered in the textbook.
The final exam will take place on
at a location TBA. There will be 3 "midterm" exams during class hours on April 19, May 10 and May 31.
No make-up exams will be possible. No open book, notes or calculators on the midterms and final exam. The exams will be based on homework.
Grades will be assigned as follows. Letter grading (i.e., A, B+, C-, etc.) will be used, with A's,B's, and C's distributed with roughly equal proportion (i.e., ~33%) among those who passed the cutoff rule stated below. The upper 0-20% in each letter group will receive a plus, the lowest 0-30% will receive a minus.
The final score will be compiled using the following scheme:
Cutoff rule: You will need to score at least (about) 55% of all points in order to get a grade C- or higher.
homework 15% each midterm 15% final exam 40%
Homework assignments are key to your success in this class. The assignments will be distributed via the syllabus page and will be due at the begining of the class on the due date indicated. If you cannot come to class, bring your assignment the day before to my office. No exceptions will be made in the case of late HW.
No honors section will be offered for this class. Individual consultations and discussions will be possible and welcome.
