Class Syllabus

Textbook: J. Stewart, Multivariable Calculus, 7th edition
Course material: Introductory multivariable differentiable calculus
Prerequesites: Math 31A/B or equivalent

Homework: Homework is to be turned during your assigned section according to the schedule below. Graded homework will be returned to you the following section.
Late homework will not be accepted, but your lowest homework score will be dropped.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be administered during your assigned section and will cover all material up to and including what is covered on the most recent homework. Therefore the material covered on the Tuesday quizzes will differ from that covered on the Thursday quizzes. Don't worry. Quiz grades will be equalized between the two section days.
Quizzes taken during a section for which you are not enrolled or waitlisted will not be graded.
No makeup quizzes but the lowest quiz score will be dropped.
There will be no quizzes on Tuesday, 1/10 or Thursday, 2/2.

Midterms: There will be two midterms.
Midterm 1 Wednesday, 2/1. Covers 12.1-6 and 10.1. Room: MS 4000 for Sections D-F, Bunche 2209A for Sections A-C
Midterm 2 Friday 2/24. Cumulative through 14.2. Room: La Kretz 110 (everyone)
There will be no makeup exams.
Students missing one midterm with a legitimate excuse will have that midterm grade replaced by the average of the rescaled grades for the final exam and the other midterm.
Legitimate excuses must be emergencies or must be agreed to by the instructor beforehand. All excuses must be presented to the instructor in writing as soon as possible and not later than one week following the exam.
Students missing both midterms will not pass the course.

Final exam: The final exam is on Monday, March 19, 11:30-2:30 (room TBA)
Students not taking the final will not pass the course.

Grading: Your final grade will be computed as follows:
40% Final Exam + 20% Midterm 1 + 20% Midterm 2 + 15% Quizzes + 5% Homework

Grading issues: If you believe a problem on an assignment has been graded incorrectly, you should submit your request for a regrade in writing within one week of the day on which the assignment was returned and before the final exam. The final decision regarding all regrades will be made by the instructor.
Please verify in a timely manner that your scores are correctly recorded on MyUCLA.
