Syllabus:
Week 1: Vectors, matrices, and Gaussian elimination.
Week 2: Linear transformations and matrix inverses.
Week 3: Subspaces, linear independence and dimension.
Week 4: MIDTERM 1, Change of basis, orthonormal bases.
Week 5: QR factorization, orthonormal matrices.
Week 6: Least Squares, determinants.
Week 7: Finish determinants, MIDTERM 2.
Week 8: Eigenvalues, eigenvectors.
Week 9: Diagonalization, quadratic forms.
Week 10: Singular value decomposition, review.

Exams:
Midterm 1 October 19th
Midterm 2 November 6th
Final December 9th

Book: Linear Algebra with Applications, fourth edition, by Otto Bretscher.

Grading: The weekly homeworks due Fridays will comprise 20% of the total grade for this course. There are NO circumstances under which late homeworks will be accepted. The lowest score will be dropped. In addition, there will be two in-class midterms and a final. There are NO make-up exams. Exam grades will be determined by the best of either 20% each midterm 40% final or 20% highest midterm 60% final.

Regrades on homeworks and exams can only be done by the professor and must be requested within two weeks of the due date/exam date. After this time, no requests for corrections will be honored.
