Letters of Recommendation
If you are or were a student in one of my classes, you are welcome to ask me to write a letter of recommendation for you under the following conditions:
  1. I have seen or spoken to you more than just in the classroom.
  2. You received at least an A- in the class, and if applying to graduate school an A.
  3. I receive the request at least ten work days prior to the due date.
Once I agree to write you a letter of recommendation, please provide me with
  1. a list of the classes you took with me indicating which quarter;
    • necessary information in the case of electronic submission of letters, which is preferred;
      or
    • an envelope, containing all forms, folded and put in the labeled and stamped envelopes as needed;
  2. a list with three columns containing the recipient of the letter in the first column, the due date in the second and a box for me to check off in the third;
  3. your email.
Some institutions ask you to waive your right to view the recommendation letter. I prefer you agree to this, as it enhances the credibility.

If there is the option of electronic submission of letters, I prefer to do that.

In case of manual submission, even if some application forms ask you to collect the completed recommendations and then mail them with your application, it usually is accepted to have the recommender mail the letter of recommendation directly. I prefer to do that.
