UCLA's Actuarial Program recognized by the Society of Actuaries
The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is a professional organization that helps develop actuarial leaders around the world. The SOA has designated UCLA's actuarial program as a UCAP-Advanced Curriculum (UCAP-AC) for 2017-2018. The UCAP listing serves as a resource for students looking for university/college actuarial programs. Benefits for listed schools may include reimbursement of fees for three individual student preliminary exams each academic year, study materials, events, and travel costs.
UCLA's Financial Actuarial Mathematics (FAM) major is one of the more well-known programs on the west coast that is taught by current and retired actuaries. FAM majors are encouraged to join the Bruin Actuarial Society, the undergraduate student organization supported by UCLA Mathematics, which assists members through professional development and networking opportunities.
