UCLA PhD student Baichuan Yuan and team win first place at Correlation One's Datathon
Applied math PhD student Baichuan Yuan (UCLA) and teammates Jiaping Zhang (UCD), Michael Huang (USC) and Bradley Rava (USC) took home the first place prize of $25,000 at Correlation One's Datathon in partnership with Citadel. Datathon competitions are held throughout the year at top universities and challenge students to work through a large and complex dataset and then present their findings to a panel of judges.
During the competition, the students worked on a transportation-focused problem statement using the multivariate Hawkes process model on network. The team will now advance to the final championship at the New York Stock Exchange in November. The winning team at the "The Data Open Championship" at the NYSE will receive $100,000 prize, presented by Citadel CEO Ken Griffin.
