UCLA PhD student Geoffrey Iyer has been awarded a Chateaubriand Fellowship, totalling over $10,000, from the French Office of Science and Technology, to carry out his final year of the PhD studies in Grenoble France in the GIPSA Lab supervised by Prof.
Professor Andrea Bertozzi has been appointed as a Math+X Investigator by the Simons Foundation, which recognizes research collaboration between mathematics and the California NanoSystems Institute. As an Investigator, Bertozzi will receive significant research support of $1.5 million for an initial period of five years beginning July 1, 2017.

Professor Andrea Bertozzi's research in applied mathematics is innovative and far reaching. Among other projects, Bertozzi has worked with her team and the Los Angeles Police Department to create crime predicting models, and more recently, her research focuses on the development of robots' ability to pollinate plants.
UCLA mathematics Professor Dimitri (Dima) Shlyakhtenko has been appointed Director of Institute for Pure & Applied Mathematics (IPAM). His appointment will begin on July 1, 2017.
